Who We Are

Located just outside of downtown Boston on the former grounds of the Boston State Hospital, the Boston Nature Center is a community-based urban sanctuary. Year-round programs help foster an appreciation for nature and the environment. The Boston Nature Center’s 67 acres consists of meadows, forests, and wetlands with two miles of trails and boardwalks. The sanctuary is home to over 150 species of birds, 40 species of butterflies and 350 species of plants.

What We Do

Volunteers at the Boston Nature Center help to maintain our property for people and wildlife, by helping to remove invasive plants, support ecological restoration efforts, while also helping to clean-up litter and debris. We are also looking for people who can help to enhance the overall visitor experience by helping to welcome visitors, and/or sharing their knowledge and expertise with our Sanctuary Committee.

To express interest in volunteering with us, please fill out this form. Our volunteer coordinator will reach out once you have completed the form.
