Nurturing Nature Together: Wings & Seeds at Allens Pond

Expired

Description

Join Mass Audubon staff for a Wildflower Seed Collection & Monarch Tagging event at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. Participants will learn about and support Mass Audubon’s efforts in Monarch Watch, a national community science program. Monarch tagging allows scientists to understand Monarch migration patterns, behaviors and population trends to aid in the conservation of the species. Native wildflowers play a vital role in supporting pollinator species, biodiversity and overall ecosystem health. Participants will join Mass Audubon staff in collecting native seed to be used for habitat restoration at Allens Pond. Last season we collected over 27 different plant species restoring 20+ acres and tagged over 100 Monarchs. We are hoping to increase those numbers with your help - no prior experience necessary! This is a family friendly volunteer opportunity; any volunteer under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian for the duration of the event.

We will be meeting at our Allens Neck Road trailhead where we will walk ~1 mile to our grasslands. Please bring a water bottle, and a hat for sun protection. There are no restrooms at this location.

This program is made possible through funding by grant 43-00A01143 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Southeast New England Program.
