Please join us for a planting event for our USFWS Candidate Conservation Action Fund grant project! We have over 2,000 Wild Indigo (Baptisia tinctoria) plugs that need to be planted at our Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary and at the Town’s Foothills Preserve. Why are we planting so many Wild Indigo plugs? Wild Indigo is the host plant of the Frosted Elfin (Callophrys irus). The Frosted Elfin is a species of special concern in the state of Massachusetts and is considered an “at risk” species by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The main objective of this multi-year grant-funded project is to convert former gravel pits to native meadows in order to provide habitat for the Frosted Elfin butterfly. We are looking forward to having you help out with this initiative!
