Description

Help Mass Audubon capture and tag migrating monarchs at our sanctuaries by participating in the national Monarch Watch program with us! The Monarch Watch program is used by Mass Audubon to engage volunteers in the monarch's migration through data collection and tagging.

In order to participate in this amazing opportunity, volunteers must attend this virtual meeting. After you sign up for this session, we will email you with the link to the online meeting.

At this virtual training, Monarch Watch volunteers will be trained on how to responsibly collect migration data on monarchs by independently searching for, capturing, and tagging wild monarchs at our South East wildlife sanctuaries. Volunteers will learn how to identify, capture, handle, sex, and tag monarchs. Volunteers will be responsible for collecting and recording accurate data onto a data sheet.

After being properly trained, volunteers will begin to be able to sign up for shifts beginning on August 16th and continuing until September 30th. Weekly requirements include visiting your sanctuary of choice for an estimated 2 hours per week to capture and tag monarchs. Volunteers will be required to track their volunteer hours within the online volunteer platform. This position requires walking on sometimes uneven terrain and through tall grass. Walking distances vary by location.

If you cannot make this training event and are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity, please email us at sevols@massaudubon.org.
